About
Hi, I'm Eric Ayers. I've lived in Atlanta my whole life, and I studied at Georgia Tech, where I learned design skills and how to make a living. I love figuring out how things work and how to make them work better. Z-Atelier is where I'm funneling my passions into crafting wood.
It started in my step-father's shop. He built beautiful boxes out of red oak for friends and family, and I spent a lot of time watching him work.
What I make
I make things you can use in your home like end-grain cutting boards, knife blocks, and wood art. They're things meant to be used every day and to look good doing it. .
My tagline, a practice of design, craft, and utility, is really a promise. I want to make useful, beautiful things for people who appreciate good design and fine craftsmanship in their homes.
The wood
Whenever I can, I use locally sourced wood, including reclaimed lumber. Giving a fallen tree or an old church pew a second life feels right to me, and every piece carries a little history of the place it came from.
